Fun Fact Friday

We regularly feed the birds in our neighborhood. Every year about this time, sunflowers start sprouting up around the feeder from stray seeds. Its one of our favorite things about our yard.  They finally bloomed just a few days ago, I love watching them slowly release their petals to the sun. I thought it would make a good “Fun Fact Friday” and I could combine it with my “Give Me Your Best Shot” post for Lolli’s blog.

sunflower The scientific name of sunflowers is Helianthus, Helia for sun and Anthus for flower.
