Yesterday we noticed a few red bites on Ezra’s legs, and thought nothing of it. He always gets really red from any sort of bug bite, he has sensitive skin.
Then this morning I noticed another new bite on his arm, and that one of his eyes was a little swollen. Still not thinking its a big deal, but as the day went by my husband noted his ankle was swollen and that we was limping a little. So we made an appt. to after hour peds.
I searched Ezra’s room before he left for his appt, and I found the spider under his crib, I killed it and put it in a bag. Here it is.
While they are on their way to after hours, I am consulting Dr. Google. I am pretty sure the spider is a brown recluse spider, a venomous spider! Freaking out now.
They see the Dr.s , they look at the spider, and are pretty sure it is also a brown recluse. Ezra has at least 4 bites on him!
The Dr.s said that these spider bites can vary in degree of severity, and can affect people differently. I was going to post a picture of what they can do to a person, but they are really gross. Here is a link if you are not faint of stomach. They can basically eat away your skin.
We are not 100% sure that it was a brown recluse, and may never know. We are not out of the woods yet, we have to monitor him tonight, and tomorrow. If he wakes up and his leg is worse we will have to take him back to the doctor. The bites can cause arthritic like symptoms in their joints, and he may need some medication incase the bites caused an infection. I will keep you all posted.
Ezra is still his happy little self, and no venomous spider will slow him down.
Today I am counting my blessings.

Oh no!!! Poor baby and poor mama! I am sure you were/are scared. I hope it turns out okay. I was bitten a couple summers ago on my foot by a brown recluse. I went straight to the ER when I felt it and they started me on meds as a precaution. Luckily, nothing else happened after that. The ER doc told me sometimes you can have a "dry" bite, which was probably the case for me. I will be thinking of you and your lil guy.
Ugh! Scary! Makes me cringe just thinking about it. Glad his reaction has been mild & hope it continues to only get better.
OMG, that makes my stomach hurt just looking at it. I would be completely freaking out. I hope the little guy is okay!!!
Beth. This is scary. I hope you can sell your house soon and get back to MN.....we have many fewer lethal insects. Dad
Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear that. I would freak if I even seen a spider like that. I cannot imagine how you must feel right now. Wishing your baby luck!

Oh my gosh! That is horrible! I probably would have freaked out! I hope he is okay.
Wow...that's awful. I despise spiders...all kinds. :) I hope and pray that nothing comes of this, and he continues to be his happy, healthy self. Hang in there momma!
Oh poor baby, I am glad he is ok...
poor baby, poor mama. that is scary. I have yet to see a brown reluse but I have seen black widows and scorpions in our backyard. hope he is better soon.
Yeah we have those in Vegas A lot and they are no joke! danger danger! poor guy! 4 of them? YIKES
This scares the heck out of me! We have something called a Hobo Spider here that I have the house sprayed for because they are so dangerous.
I hope everything turns out okay!
YIKES! I have seen bites by brown recluse many times and yes they are nasty nasty. I don't think the Black Widow even compared to the gruesomeness of a Brown Recluse. The good news though is not everyone has a severe reaction as the doc said. I see a lot of spiders that look like that but wonder if it's a brown recluse or a wolf spider. We have a lot of those around here. How would I know? The violin shape on the back of a brown recluse does me no good because I won't be getting that close!!! I can't believe it continued to bite your son 4 times. I am glad it's dead!!
Very scary!
Crap!!
wow. glad he seems ok !!!
Hubs was bit by one back in Halloween of 2003...it was bad..glad you were paying attention, those things can be deadly. He's such a cutie!
The fact that the picture of the HUGE dead spider almost made me throw up in my mouth leads me to believe that I should not click on the link you provided. He looks great (aside from the welts) so think positive and let us know!!!
Very scary. Not good. I am glad that you found the spider and at least know what it (might) have been. Here's hoping to a quick recovery.
Egh, that not good. We have those spiders allllllll over our barns. They also hide in the hay. But I'm glad your boy is in great spirits.
Holy crap ... that has my heart racing just looking at the spider and the bites. I know how serious a brown recluse bite can be. But I'm praying your little guy will be just fine! We have a ton of black widows around our place and I've had a few crawl out of outdoor plants or toys and scurry down my arm or leg. Talk about freakin' out!
Oh my gosh MM! That is terrible. Those pictures too. YIKES. I hate spideys! I hope he will be OK!!! xo
How terrible for all of you - I pray all will be well in the end. At least you are watchful - hopefully this will all be over happily and quickly!
Oh my gosh, I'm freaking! I want to go run into my baby's room and flip his mattress to check for bugs now!
I hope your little one WASN'T bitten by a brown recluse. But even more, I hope he'll be fine!
Poor baby. I'm truly glad he's ok.
OMG Poor Baby :(
I am praying for your little man now!!!!
That's terrible!!! I have a video monitor to see my daughter while she sleeps, but I'm always afraid of bugs in her room. I hope he gets better soon!!
Wow, that is scary. Lucky for us, those kind of spiders are kind of rare in our area. Hope your little guy is going to be alright!
Oh no! I'm glad he's doing so well. He must have a pretty sturdy immune system to withstand all of those bites. Glad you were able to find the spider and kill it.
Okay, so it's been at least 10 years since we've seen each other. That matters not. I am a mom of a wonderful 6 year old boy. He is my world. I want to do everything I can for you and your Ez. I will donate. I will spread the word. I feel so much for you and your family. I wish you to reach out as much as your can.
well, I think God is amazing for the way he put the knowledge into your hands dear.
I am for sure praying for you.

I have seen what a Brown Recluse can do when I lived in AR. Not nice.
I'm bikehikebabe--
I saw pics. of brown recluse spider bites on email. I didn't believe them. I thought they'd been made at Photoshop.
But the doctors say Ezra has cancer. Spiders don't make cancer. ??????????
