Remember when I showed you those pictures from that quaint little town? And I mentioned I found myself in a most peculiar place? Well that place…….
A very old cemetery…in case you can’t read that, it was established in 1826. Like a fly to honey I found myself traipsing through this cemetery before I even knew it.
No, cemeteries don’t freak me out. Halloween Horror Nights? Yes, that freaks me out, I almost wet myself several times.
In fact I have always been fascinated by cemeteries.
I was that odd goth teen with think black eyeliner, and Doc Martens, that hung out in them when I should have been in class.
I just thought that maybe if I posted these pictures in October, you may think I am a little less quirky.
I did it for the sake of your Halloween enjoyment. Not at all because I find cemeteries fascinating, and oddly serene.
Because that would just make me come across even more insane than I already do.
Someone had lined these fallen gravestones along the base of a tree. Look at how small they are.
Some of the gravestones said the neatest and well oddest things.
I am not even sure what to make of this one….apparently this woman was just waiting to die.
That’s neat too, I wonder if they came up with there own sayings?
How sad, Agnes was only three. It makes me wonder what she died from, than it makes me thankful for medical advances. Because in 1917 there was no cure for Leukemia.
This picture right here is my absolute favorite. It is my computer’s wallpaper…it makes me smile every time I see it. Go ahead grab it make it yours too, it will make you smile. Well….maybe not, if your freaked out by cemeteries.
That is all it said on the gravestone GRACE period. I realize they meant grace in the biblical sense, but every time I see the picture I think of grace like this “elegance or beauty of form, manner, motion, or action.” Mostly grace of manner and action, because I need a whole lot of that in my life right now. So every time I see this it reminds me. Grace.
So early Happy Halloween from me to you!

Beautiful shots and very evocative. I also like cemeteries, but mainly for genealogical-research reasons!
ReplyDeleteI love cemeteries. I find them fascinating, and I love to walk around and read all the headstones. I don't know, there's just something serene, and yet you don't feel alone.
ReplyDeleteWell, you know me, so you know my feelings about cemeteries. However, these shots are simply amazing. I loved each one of them. The sayings were great! She had nothing to do but die?! Okay then!
ReplyDeleteFirstly love the new image. :0)
ReplyDeleteThese photos are beautiful, so peaceful. You've made me want to go and visit one....haven't for a very long time.
Pretty photos, perfect Halloween theme!!!
ReplyDeleteThose photos are amazing! You've got talent for sure. :) And yes, the last one did make me smile!
ReplyDeleteThose are the best pictures! Wow! Happy Early Halloween!!
ReplyDeleteDont forget, I changed my url.. countrygirlcitylife.com
These pictures are beautiful! I am with you on the cemeteries are intriguing thing. I find myself wandering through them from time to time, reading epitaphs, calculating ages from their birth and death dates and wondering about the stories. I grieve for people I've never known through tokens left behind by those who loved them most. I guess I sound a little batty myself! Thanks for sharing anyway - your honesty on all levels is appreciated!
ReplyDeleteI too have a similar fascination for cemeteries. I sometimes go and sit on the wall overlooking a cemetery near my home at night. I feel at peace with me-self to be in that brooding silence.
ReplyDeleteAnd you take such superb pics!
And Happy Early Halloween to you too.
Beautiful pictures. I love cemeteries also!!
ReplyDeleteThese are gorgeous! I love cemetery photos! I need to go get some good ones this month! We have lots of beautiful old cemeteries here in Massachusetts!
ReplyDeleteI love old cemetaries! It sounds weird but I love history so it isn't suprising. We have explored several 19th century cememtaries in Colorado but the St. Paul's Chapel in NYC right across from the WTC site has some of the oldest gravestones I have seen. Dating back to the 18th century. Very cool! I like to imagine what life was like back then...
ReplyDeleteI walk through cemetaries that have family buried there. I have went back and found my great grandparents graves. There's just something neat about it.
ReplyDeleteI too have a cemetary obsession, although I've kept it from my hubby for years. Those are some awesome pictures and the Grace one hit me before I even read what you wrote.
ReplyDeletethose are great photos! I love walking through old cemeteries too.
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are wonderful. I would have loved to wonder through there in the day but I have to admit that at night I think that particular cemetery looks like it might get a bit creepy. I don't think I'd like my headstone to read "She had nothing to do but die".
ReplyDeleteI love cemeteries too...those are great pictures, thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYour pictures are so pretty. They really capture the beauty of cemeteries. I am also so fascinated by the tombstones and the history that is present. But I won't go at night! ;-)
ReplyDeleteI love these pictures. When I was younger I would poke around in old cemetaries and read all the tombstones.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pics. Gorgeous words. Love the Grace picture. Love it. You have a few talents, my friend.
ReplyDeleteThe "nothing to do but die" one is weird.
ReplyDeleteMy husband's first born son passed away, he was a preemie who only lived about 3 weeks. He's buried in Forest Meadows which is a modern cemetery with the flat markers. I like the old ones better, but I still like going to visit his grave, and I sometimes go even without John. He doesn't like cemeteries but I love them.
I love old cemeteries! And you're pics are very cool, indeed. Thanks for sharing - makes me want to go and take pics of an old one near here.
ReplyDeleteI love walking through cemeteries too. My family used to tease me as I would spend hours just walking through and reading tombstones and grieve over those who died young and rejoice over those who died old and wonder about their lives.
ReplyDeleteI do the same thing as I'm driving down rural highways and looking at homes. Wondering what their stories are.
You and my 19-year-old daughter would get along great. She loves to photograph old graveyards. She is always looking online to find a new "old" graveyard to visit, so this does not seem strange to me.
ReplyDeleteLovely photographs. And the sayings

I put the Grace headstone as my wallpaper, and I agree. It's really cool! Thanks for the great pictures.
ReplyDeleteI, too, love old cemetaries -- the older the better. I like to speculate on their lives and their deaths. I like to photograph them also, but mine are not nearly as gooursd as yours.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing...
Have a great week!
When I waited tables back in the day, my nickname was Grace. I may or may not have dropped things incessantly. Ah ha
ReplyDeleteOh what a cool cemetery!! I love really old places like this- lots of "I wonder how..." stories to dream up!
