Thought Provoking Thursday

Manic Mother

If you could rid yourself of one bad habit, what would it be?

My Answer: I wish I could stop picking my fingernails, I pick and tear at them until they bleed (see above). I do it mostly when I am not even aware I am doing it. I have the grossest hands.

Your turn! Leave your answer in the comments or link up and do “Thought Provoking Thursday” on your blog. You can grab the button in my side bar.

Ok ladies I actually had a few of you sign up for this, and I want to see how you all did.

Here is who took on the challenge : Jennifer@Its a Beauty Filled Life,Michelle@Lollypops and Lizards, Annie@ Annie are You ok?, Kim@ A Parent’s Life to Behold Through Insanity and Bliss, Kimert@ Diaries of a Coach’s Wife, Modern Mom@ How to Survive Life in the Suburbs, Karen@ Let’s Bake Cookies, Amy @ Adventures of a Messy Chef.

How much did you lose? Did you stick to it?

How did I do, you ask?

I lost 3.5lbs, so I am right on track of where I want to be (even lost an extra lb!), I did the exercise, but wasn’t so great w/ my calorie counting. I had one day of PMS cravings that blew my calories out of the water, but I still lost what I needed to for this week so I am pleased.

Crazy Cat Lady Chronicles part 1 (cat lovers may want to skip this post)

We live next door to a “crazy cat lady”. Much like this.

cat lady simpsonsShe is a 60+ year old single (always has been) woman, no kids, few relatives, no friends, as far as I know. A true, hardcore, crazy cat lady.

At any given time she has 5-10 semi-feral cats (and possums, and raccoons at night) she is feeding, not to mention the 10+ that live inside with her. When the wind blows right…the smell we get wafting our way is down right nauseating.

She isn’t just a cat lover, she is a cat hoarder. Florida has a huge feral cat population, because of this many places offer free spaying or neutering. She does not get her cats fixed, because she wants them to have kittens. She wants more nasty cats to rub up against her face (yes, she really rubs them on her face). I think this is completely irresponsible on her part. We were even told her cats have cat AIDS, and she just keeps letting them breed, making more nasty AIDS kitties.

We were always very nice to her, and let her cats use our yard for a litter box for years. There is nothing like stepping in a fresh cat turd…nothing. Her damn AIDS cats even left scratches all over the hood of our car. I don’t even view these animals as pets, to me they are feral vermin. When we decided to put our house on the market, we decided to take action against her and the nasty AIDS cats…… Because who wants to buy a house with a yard sprinkled with cat turds , reeking of cat piss? Not I. War was waged, and an action planned concocted……

  2. Beat butter, eggs, brown sugar, and vanilla together. Add flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt , mix well. Stir in oats and toffee bits.
  3. Drop dough by tablespoons full, about 2 inches apart. Bake 9-11 minutes, or until edges are lightly browned. Cool for a minute on sheet, move to wire rack to cool completely.

Your turn! Here are the rules for Manic Martha Moment.

Your Manic Martha Moment can be just about anything (creativity comes in all sorts of shapes). It can be a craft you made, a recipe you tried or created, a great photo you took, just as long as it is something you made.

All I ask is that you link back to Manic Mother, or grab the button to display, but I won't hold a grudge if you don't ;).

Since so many bloggers are already doing certain memes on certain days, you can post your Manic Martha Moment on any day of the week, just remember to come back and sign the Mr. Linky so everyone else can see what you made. It can even be an old post, that you would like to share with us.

I plan to do it every other Tuesday.

This is a great way to get people to your blog,or Etsy store and seeing what you create. I hope you enjoy it.

Here is the button, and you can always find it on my sidebar if you post yours early.

Manic Mother

Instead of putting your name in the Mr. Linky, put in what you made, and then enter a link to the actual post, or your Etsy shop.

8 things (trying to redeem my bad bloggers etiquette)

My bloggers etiquette sucks. I never return the awards,  and I forget about being tagged. I apologize to all of you that give me awards, I just suck at doing them. Secretly, when someone else posts an award….do you read what they have written? Probably not, you don’t have to admit it. So that is part of my logic in not doing them…I figure no one reads them…correct me if I am wrong. Memes are a little more fun I will read those, and here I am filling one out, in hopes of some redemption. Here it goes.

8 things I am looking forward to:

  1. My vacation at the end of May to Disney and Ft. Lauderdale
  2. Our vacation to MN in August
  3. Having a nice kitchen (someday)
  4. My baby turning 2
  5. Christmas (I am always looking forward to it)
  6. 4th of July
  7. The bag I ordered from Etsy coming in the mail
  8. Going to see the movie Earth w/ my SIL

8 things I did yesterday:

  1. Had a pina coloda play date (good times)
  2. Painted my toenails
  3. Went to the Dollar Store
  4. Bought some tulle for a craft project
  5. Wiped poopy butts
  6. Went to the gym
  7. Put up glow in the dark stars in Ro’s room
  8. Edited photos

8 things I wish I could do:

  1. Be a size 2
  2. Have a baby girl
  3. Have super powers to wriggle my nose (like Samantha)
  4. Sing (well)
  5. Have a vacation from the kids
  6. Travel over seas
  7. Sew
  8. Read a book uninterrupted

8 shows I watch:

  1. Desperate Housewives
  2. Medical Mysteries
  3. Mystery Diagnosis
  4. Martha Stewart Show
  5. American Idol

8 people I am tagging (if you have already done this, please ignore, and by all means do not feel obliged to do it)

10lbs in 28 days anyone?

weight-scale

I fell really ill about a year ago, and got very thin…almost too thin. Since after I had my surgeries and regained my health, I put some weight back on. More than I would like. I am getting too close to my weight I refuse to go over. Swift action must be taken!

We are going on vacation in 28 days, my goal is to lose 10lbs by then. I feel if I tell the world, I have to do it! Bathing suit season is upon us ladies.

Anyone care to join in ?

Here is my plan:

I must lose a little more then 2lbs a week, to do this I plan to:

  • Exercise 4x a week for minimum of 30 min.
  • Calculate all of my calories on Spark People , (let me know if you are on there we can keep track of each other.)
  • Refrain from drinking any calories (w/ the exception of my already planned pina colada play date tomorrow, but I am only having one!)

If you want to join in sign the Mr. Linky. I will have weekly weigh ins if anyone wants to participate. This starts today for me, but you can start tomorrow if you like.

Thought Provoking Thursday

ruby-slippers

If you could have permanent possession of any single object in the world, what would you want it to be?

My answer: I would want Judy Garland’s Ruby Red Slippers, it is one of the few things I remember being in complete awe with at the Smithsonian museum.  Not to mention they are worth a pretty penny!

Your turn! Please leave your answer in the comments, or link up and do “Thought Provoking Thursday” on your blog. Ask this question or one of your own. You can find the “Thought Provoking Thursday” button in my sidebar. Thanks!

Manic Martha Moment Meme

I tend to think of myself as a pretty creative person, I am always in the process of making something. I have noticed there are a ton of creative people out in the blog world also, many of them are my readers! I decided to start a meme that would help everyone showcase something they have made.

I joke a lot that I am a “Manic Depressive Martha Stewart”. When I am in the throes of mania, I am always crafting and baking. I thought it appropriate to name the meme :

manicmarthamoment Here is how it will work:

Manic Martha Moment will be every other Tuesday, giving you plenty of time to create something fabulous.

I will put up a Mr. Linky up for you to enter what you have made and a link to your page. This will help everyone get exposure and traffic to your blog, but also give other people great ideas.

Your “Manic Martha Moment” can be just about anything (creativity comes in all sorts of shapes). It can be a craft you made, a recipe you tried or created, a great photo you took, just as long as it is something you made.

All I ask is that you link back to Manic Mother, or grab the button to display.

First time will be next Tuesday, so you have one week to get something made or find an old post to link to. The button is up on my right hand side bar for you to grab at your will. Hope you enjoy!

What Causes Insomnia?

Mental Health Monday

insomnia-eye

Insomnia is a symptom of many different sleep disorders, it is the difficulty to fall asleep or stay asleep, but what causes it?

  • Stress/Anxiety
  • Depression (can cause excessive sleep as well)
  • Medications- antidepressants, heart and blood pressure medications, allergy medications, stimulants (such as Ritalin) and corticosteroids. Many over-the-counter (OTC) medications, including some pain medication combinations, decongestants and weight-loss products, contain caffeine and other stimulants.
  • Caffeine, nicotine and alcohol- Alcohol is a sedative that may help you fall asleep, but it prevents deeper stages of sleep and often causes you to awaken in the middle of the night.
  • Medical conditions- arthritis, cancer, congestive heart failure, diabetes, lung disease, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), overactive thyroid, stroke, Parkinson disease and Alzheimer's disease.
  • Change in your schedule
  • Learned insomnia-  This may occur when you worry excessively about not being able to sleep well and try too hard to fall asleep. Most people with this condition sleep better when they're away from their usual sleep environment or when they don't try to sleep, such as when they're watching TV or reading.
  • Hormone shifts- like the ones right before menstruation and during menopause
  • Mental disorders- like bipolar disorder
  • Parasites…lol, don’t let the bed bugs bite!

58% of  Americans report having insomnia a few nights every week or more. Insomnia gets worse as people age since you generally need less sleep the older you are.

While I don’t think I suffer from insomnia, it  does take me longer than most people to fall asleep, usually around 30-60 minutes, and I sleep very lightly when I do fall asleep. I take a medication to help me fall asleep and stay asleep, its been a godsend.

Are any of you insomniacs?

Thrifty Design-It-Yourself Bedroom Decorating Tips

“Most people find themselves living on a much tighter budget in today’s economy, but that doesn’t mean you can’t still make some improvements around the house.

As children grow they tend to go through many phases and their bedroom décor usually follows suit. Decorations that your child loved last year may not be as popular as he or she gets older and their tastes begin to change. Everyone also knows that if your child isn’t happy, then you’re going to hear about it. This spring why not help your son or daughter decorate their bedroom the way they want without spending tons of money on store bought decorations? Start off strong with some stylish new decorated headboards.

Hillsdale-Furniture-Westfield-Youth-Headboard~img~HF~HF4028_m

Decorating your child’s headboard in the theme of their choice is one of the easiest and quickest ways to help give them the style they want. Ask your son or daughter what theme in which they would like their bedroom decorated. After they have given you their choices, visit your local craft store and try to find any materials that would lend themselves well to that theme.

If your daughter chose a princess theme, collect some frilly pink fabric and sparkly plastic jewels. If your son wants a western theme, find some faux leather and thick rope. By strategically gluing or stapling these materials onto their existing headboard, you can quickly and easily create a design that your child will love. You can even have your child help you with the decoration process. Now not only do they have a new decorated headboard, but they are also showcasing an art project that they created with their mother.

Rather than purchase over priced decorations featuring your child’s favorite cartoon characters, why not create your own wall art with your PC and ink jet printer? Find images of your son or daughters favorite characters online through a Google image search and print them out on your home printer. You can easily tape up a number of characters around your child’s room, and since they are so inexpensive to print and easy to hang, you’ll have no problem replacing them as your child’s interest’s change. This is an easy way to create wall décor that can grow with your child. “

Visit Bedroom Furniture.com for some really great prices on headboards and other beautiful furniture, they have free shipping and returns too!
