Meet Ted. Ted is a magical, healing teddy bear. Much like the Velveteen Rabbit, He comes alive and talks when only Ezra is watching. Ezra has been attached to Ted for a couple of years now. Ezra sucks on Ted’s tail, like a normal child would a pacifier. Its gross… I have to wash Ted a lot.
There was talk of taking away Ted right before Ezra got sick, but then when he faced weeks in the hospital, I just couldn’t bring myself to take away the one thing that gave him comfort.
Instead of completely taking Ted away from Ezra we devised a plan to perform a little operation on Ted, removing his tail in hopes that he would no longer put him in his mouth.
Ezra reluctantly handed over Ted….
My husband then set about performing his amputation…Ezra watched carefully.
Ezra was slightly concerned that Ted was feeling pain, and that Ted now had an owie. Such a compassionate little man.
I had a bandanna laying around and I sewed a patch on to Ted’s butt, where his tail once was….
And then I used the left over fabric to make a quick cape for Ted, he has now been transformed into Super Ted….
I am happy to say that Ted’s amputation really didn’t phase Ezra and he has been sleeping well without Ted’s ass in his mouth.
One happy mom. One big little boy. One treasured teddy bear.
